NMC Guidelines, simplified

Everything Indian medical aspirants need to know about practicing in India after MBBS abroad.

Eligibility (NMC 2021 Regulations)

  • NEET qualification mandatory
  • 10+2 with PCB minimum 50% (40% reserved)
  • Course duration: minimum 54 months
  • Internship: minimum 12 months at the same institution

FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Exam)

  • Conducted twice a year by NBE
  • Pass mark: 50%
  • Mandatory for practice in India
  • Followed by 1-year Indian internship

NExT (National Exit Test)

  • Replaces FMGE upon implementation
  • Common exit exam for Indian and FMG graduates
  • Step 1 (Theory) + Step 2 (Practical)
  • Also used for PG entrance

Internship Guidelines

  • 12 months in NMC-approved Indian hospital
  • Stipend as per institution
  • Mandatory before final registration
  • Permanent registration after completion
